Symposia/Special Sessions

Special sessions are very small and specialized events to be held during the conference as a set of oral and poster presentations that are highly specialized in some particular theme or consisting of the works of some particular international project. The goal of special sessions (minimum 4 papers; maximum 9) is to provide a focused discussion on innovative topics. All accepted papers will be published in a special section of the conference proceedings book, under an ISBN reference, and on digital support. All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library. SCITEPRESS is a member of CrossRef and every paper is given a DOI (Digital Object Identifier). The proceedings are submitted for indexation by Web of Science / Conference Proceedings Citation Index, DBLP, EI and SCOPUS.

Special Session on Weather, Position and Performance data in Outdoor Sports - WPPDSports 2015

Scope

The effect of weather and environmental conditions on sports has been extensively studied over the last few years. Most of outdoor sports activities, and endurance sports in particular, are strongly influenced by variations of meteorological parameters.
Notwithstanding the conditions of the outdoor environment are often not considered when evaluating sport performance, as if they were not important, sport performance are strongly related to environmental conditions.
The aim of this Special Session is to assess how it is possible to integrate the different measures used to evaluate sport performance looking at the performance analysis in a holistic vision.

Special Session on Performance Analysis in Soccer: How does Technology Challenge Current Practices? - 3rd Edition - PerSoccer 2015

Scope

In the last decade there was a wealth of technological developments that imposed remarkable changes in performance analysis research and practice. The advent of such technologies radically challenged the practices of scientists and practitioners involved in professional soccer. Current challenges on this topic include i) how to maximize the technological potential into meaningful and effective information, ii) how can new technologies enhance the way we analyze and interpret data, and iii) how can we use technology to enhance player and team objective evaluations.

Previous editions of this symposium had the honorable presence of prominent researchers and practitioners as guest speakers, including Christopher Carling, Bruno Mendes, Bruno Travassos, Paul Power and Hector Ruiz. The 3rd Edition of this Symposium will join again both researchers and practitioners from professional soccer showing how technology and science is being integrated and is changing the current practices in performance analysis field.

We invite submissions from all over the world covering wide-range topics on performance analysis in soccer, especially related (but not limited to) to the current challenges that technology is placing to science and applied performance analysis in soccer.

Sport For ALL - Sport in the Cities - Sport4all 2015

Scope

The ability to practice sport is a basic human right for all individuals, as stated in the
Olympic Charter. The practice of sport not only enables people to live more active but can
also teach vital life skills and values, and is crucial to improving the quality of people’s
lives.
Part of the Sport for All Initiative is related with the creation of programs that encourages
cities and communities to develop an attitude of active living. Physical inactivity, along
with an unhealthy diet, tobacco use and alcohol intake, is a major preventable risk factor
in non- communicable disease and global mortality around the world.
This Session is part of one of those initiatives. Vela+ (Sailing+) is a Lisbon based project,
developed by the Seawoman Association with the financial support of the Portuguese
Institute of Sports and Youth as part of the National Sport for All Program.
