Abstract: Muscle function around the shoulder girdle can be impaired by pain, which leads to abnormal movement e.g. elevation. Movement faults should be assessed specifically, therefore individual sport rehabilitation strategies can be implemented. Smart garments are efficient for upper body movement assessment. There is a lack of literature stating that smart textile garments are reliable and valid for shoulder gridle elevation. The purpose of the study was to examine reliability and validity of the DAid smart shirt during shoulder girdle elevation. Twenty-one female volunteers aged 24.3. (SD3.3), body mass index 19.3 (SD 0.5) were recruited. The DAid smart shirt and 2D movement video analysis software Quintic Biomechanics v26, UK were the assessment tools utilized. Cronbach alpha coefficient and Interclass Correlation Coefficient were calculated to assess the within-session test-retest reliability. Bland – Altman analysis was applied to determine validity. Results: reliability for the right side measures: Cronbach alpha coefficient α ≥ 0.9, ICC ≥ 0.9. Reliability for the left side measures: Cronbach alpha coefficient α ≥ 0.9, ICC ≥ 0.91. Bland -Altman analysis presents that DAid smart shirt measures are valid during shoulder girdle elevation. Conclusion: smart shirt measures are reliable and valid during shoulder girdle elevation movements.

Data-driven Basketball Web Application for Support in Making Decisions

Authors:

Tomislav Horvat, Ladislav Havaš, Dunja Srpak and Vladimir Medved

Abstract: Statistical analysis combined with data mining and machine learning is increasingly used in sports. This paper presents an overview of existing commercial information systems used in game analysis and describes the new and improved version of originally developed data-driven Web application / information system called Basketball Coach Assistant (later BCA) for sports statistics and analysis. The aim of BCA is to provide the essential information for decision making in training process and coaching basketball teams. Special emphasis, along with statistical analysis, is given to the player’s progress indicators and statistical analysis based on data mining methods used to define played game point’s difference classes. The results obtained by using BCA information system, presented in tables, proved to be useful in programing training process and making strategic, tactical and operational decisions. Finally, guidelines for the further information system development are given primarily for the use of data mining and machine learning methods.

Validity of a Structure Sensor-based Anthropometric Measurement: Performing a Pilot Study

Authors:

Darko Katović, Marjeta Mišigoj-Duraković and Anita Bušić

Abstract: Development of new technologies is offering possibilities to overcome “traditional” limitations of anthropometric measures and enable the production of a new generation of simple, high-speed, inexpensive, highly defined and precise scanners for superficial body imaging. This study is an attempt to determine the metric characteristic of the instrument (BodyRecog PRO) which technology is based on the method of deep infrared 3D-scanning (Structure sensor). Reliability of the digitally obtained anthropometric measures was tested in the process of relating them with the measures obtained via the traditional anthropometric quantification.

Relations among Motor Abilities and Skills in Handball

Authors:

Igor Gruic

Abstract: The objective of the research was to determine the relationship between motor abilities and levels of acquisition of certain specific motor skills. On 80 students / adults who participated, with average (X1±SD) age of x=19 years, mass of 76±3.5 kg,179±4.7 cm tall, standard tests for the assessment of anthropometric characteristics, basic and specific motor abilities, and motor skills in performing different handball techniques were assessed. Statistically significant relations between abilities and skills were determined, especially among the speed, precision and technique of performing the shooting techniques in handball.
