Title:

Anthropometrical Characteristics and Somatotype of Junior Rhythmic Gymnasts of Republic of Croatia

Authors:

Radaš Josipa, Furjan-Mandić Gordana and Gruić Igor

Abstract: Aim of this study was to determine anthropometric measures (body height, body mass and body mass index) and somatotype (endomorph, ectomorph, mesomorph) of junior rhythmic gymnasts of Republic of Croatia, for every program level (A, B and C). The purpose was to determine if there are differences in morphological characteristics of junior rhythmic gymnasts of Republic of Croatia, for every program level (A, B and C), biological age and ranking achieved on competition. There were statistical differences between junior rhythmic gymnasts regarding biological age and program level, but not in regard to ranking achieved on competition. Average height of the rhythmic gymnasts is 160 centimetres, average body mass is 48 kilograms and body mass index are approximately 18 kg/m2. Somatotype of rhythmic gymnasts of A program was 2,23-2,81-4,43.

Title:

Factorial Analysis of Body Elements in Rhythmic Gymnastics

Authors:

Gordana Furjan-Mandić, Josipa Radaš, Petra Zaletel and Igor Gruić

Abstract: The main goal of this research was to analyze body movements of rhythmic gymnastics techniques, groups A and B, to classify them into homogeneous groups, to determine similarities between the obtained groups. The sample of entities was comprised of 108 body movements (elements), pertaining to the difficulty groups A and B, that were described by 33 variables. Reliability of the measuring instrument was determined on the basis of obtained opinions, collected from eight experts in rhythmic gymnastics. Ten significant latent dimensions were obtained by factor analysis under the component model with the Guttman-Kaiser criterion. The latent dimensions were interpreted as: one-leg jumps, spine mobility, frontal flexibility, free leg movements, the help of the arm-work, body rotation, two-leg jumps, forward bend, other jumps and specific elements. It is feasible to state that the application of the sophisticated measuring instruments for the different anthropological factors and biomechanical parameters determination could have provided more information on the characteristics of and differences between the rhythmic gymnastics elements.

Acute Effects of Gravitational Stretching in the Position of Modified Thomas Test on Changes in Range of Motion in Hip and Knee Joints

Authors:

Filip Bolčević, Krešimir Pažin, Dalibor Kiseljak, Igor Gruić and Vladimir Medved

Abstract: Optimal range of motion (ROM) in a joint can improve sports performance and decrease possibility of injury. In kinesiological practice, consisting of physical conditioning and kinesitherapy, ROM is most often achieved by stretching exercise. Modified Thomas Test (MTT) has not yet been used as an intervention for stretching to increase ROM, but only as a test for evaluation of ROM in hip&knee joints. The goal was to determine acute effects of intervention of gravitational stretching of two-joint and one-joint flexors of hip&knee on changes in ROM in the MTT position, by an objective measurement instrument, on young, physically active persons (n=54). Subjects were held in MTT position, and sole force leading to movement of hip&knee joints was a weight of tested extremity. Final results after the intervention were recorded. Identical procedure was repeated for the other extremity. Main results show that 120 seconds of gravitational stretching acutely increases ROM in the hip joint for 4.9° on average, while ROM in knee has decreased for 2.1° on average, and both results have shown statistical significance. MTT, as an intervention for stretching of one-joint hip flexors, is recomended, but not for two-joint flexors, which need another exercise to yield positive effects.

Title:

Effect of Demographic and Chrono-biologic Features on the Overlap of the Influence of Ageing Process and Effects of Ankylosing Spondylitis: Initial Findings

Authors:

Frane Grubišić, Igor Gruić, Simeon Grazio and Vedran Brnić

Abstract: The aim of this research is to establish a correlation between demographic features of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (age of first symptoms, disease duration, patient current age, quality of life) and ageing process. Ten male patients diagnosed with AS according to 1987 modified New York criteria (age range between 18 and 65 years) are included in this research. Sample of variables were comprised of three criterion variables assessing BASFI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Function Index), BASDAI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index) and ASQoL (Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life) as well as demographic data: αAS_HR – alpha chronologic-biologic AS disease coefficient, disease duration, age of first symptoms, patient's current age. Data analysis was performed using statistical package Statistica 13. The basic descriptive parameters were calculated. Normality of distributions of results was tested with K-S test. The research shows that both chrono-biologic and demographic variables have an impact on the ASQoL (R2=,75; F(3,6)=5,91 p<0,03) compared to BASFI and BASDAI. In conclusion, BASFI score is the least subjected to the effect of age, while the other two variables (BASDAI and ASQoL) are more subjected.

Application of Linear Programming on Example of Relationship between Two Types of Activity and Optimized Dietary Supplement Intake

Authors:

Ana Špirelja Gruić and Igor Gruić

Abstract: Kinesiology, as a science on movement, can use reductive and constructive logic and tools to inspect, analyse and produce phenomena related to human, activity. Deterministic and stochastic nature of kinanthropological phenomena are often analysed by complex statistical methods. Application of linear programming for optimization in producing simple decision and recommendation regarding intake of exact proportion of recovery dietary supplements complexes in two different activities (aerobic and anaerobic) revealed elegance of the method, and revealed prospective practical implication in sport practice, rehabilitation process, and in everyday life.

Prediction of Euroleague Games based on Supervised Classification Algorithm k-Nearest Neighbours

Authors:

Tomislav Horvat, Josip Job and Vladimir Medved

Abstract: Machine learning becomes one of the top fields in world of ICT (Information and communications technology). In the last few decades machine learning has taken a big boost in sports. Sport fans are using machine learning in sport betting and sport managers are using it for player selection, performance evaluation and even in outcome prediction. This paper gives basketball outcome prediction algorithms using k-nearest neighbours (k-nn). Few methods of preparing data calculated with different k and time period for k-nn algorithm will be presented and closely explained. Feature selection will also be discussed and results based on feature selection will be presented.

Effect of Exercise-induced Fatigue on Knee Joint Position Sense

Authors:

Tatjana Trošt Bobić, Filip Franjić and Igor Hustić

Abstract: Evidence suggests that fatigue may negatively affect joint neuromuscular function as well as lead to an increased injury risk in athletes (Ballantyne and Shields, 2010; Mallo and Dellal, 2012). Specifically, fatigue may reduce knee position sense and increase the risk of injury. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of exercise-induced fatigue on knee position sense at different motion amplitudes.

Kinematic Parameters Differences between Horizontal Bar Dismounts Double Stretched Backward Somersault with One, Two and Three Longitudinal Axis Rotations

Authors:

Marijo Moznik and Tomislav Kristicevic

Abstract: Determination of variables that differ horizontal bar dismount double stretched somersault backward with one, two and three longitudinal axis twist was main objective of this research, as a part of author’s doctoral dissertation (Moznik, 2018). Hypothesis of this research was that different amount of rotation around the longitudinal axis are characterized by a specific relationship between biomechanical variables and parameters defining the trajectory of the flight and initiating and controlling the rotation around the transverse and longitudinal axis. It should be investigated how dismounts classified according to the number of turns around the longitudinal axis differ according to the parameters within certain variables.
